My Story
Kandi Hughes is a small town girl that began life in Nebraska. However, her family moved away from her hometown to a suburb of Omaha in her teenage years. Once she was in her twenties, she moved back to a small town, this time in Missouri.
Kandi has two wonderful step-sons and one adorable granddaughter. Married life has moved her to a secluded farm that includes some cattle, a few cats, and one Westie dog that knows she is awesome.
She began her adult career in Insurance, but her heartfelt accomplishment came when she started working as a bookkeeper for a rural public school in Northwest Missouri. She enjoyed that role for over 20 years, before retiring and taking on a position in her small close-knit community as the part-time public librarian.
After years of appreciating the sounds of school noises, the halls became quiet with the arrival of Coronavirus 19. Rather than submit to the sadness of the stillness, and the barrage of unfavorable news, she decided to write a story for the entertainment of her family, friends and co-workers.
The first book released was The Flame Manipulator. She dedicated this first paperback to her Dad for Father’s Day on 6/21/2020. She then shared the tale with her friends and co-workers for a literary escape from Coronavirus 19. After many favorable reviews and much persuasion, she agreed to share the story with a broader audience. After publishing the first book, she ended the story in a three book trilogy. The second book in the series was titled The Flame Impersonator, and the final book, The Flame Annihilator.
The undertaking of publishing these books was not a simple project and could not have been accomplished without the help and encouragement from friends.

Most recently Kandi decided to write a Christmas Story for a local business, The Wool Shop, entitled Santa's First Wool Duster. After completing the story Kandi dreamed of seeing the story illustrated. Not knowing if she could complete the task she jumped in an illustrated the story herself. Enjoying the process so much she has now completed her second book, Woodland Animals Use Their Five Senses.
In addition to now writing children's books, she has completed her most recent novel, The Sound That Roared A Whisper.
